Museum Ett Hem
The museum Ett Hem was originally the private residence of consul Alfred and Hélène Jacobsson. They were passionate art collectors, and Hélène carefully decorated their home throughout her life. In 1925, the couple donated the house to the Åbo Akademi University Foundation, with the wish that it would be preserved as a museum named Ett Hem. The museum opened to the public in 1932 at its original location on Tavastgatan 30 and has operated from the current wooden building at Biskopsgatan 14 since 1965.
Alfred Jacobsson was a successful businessman, active in several well-known companies in Turku, including iron industries, beer factories, steamship companies, banks and insurance companies. He was also one of the founding members of the Åbo Akademi University Foundation.
The home is furnished with pieces from various historical periods. Visitors can explore rooms with Baroque, Gustavia, Biedermeier and Art Nouveau designs, among others. The art collection includes oil paintings, prints, watercolours, pastels, ands sculptures by artists such as Helene Schjerfbeck, Albert Edelfelt, Akseli Gallen-Kallela and Elin Danielson-Gambogi.
The museum is open seasonally, from May to September during the summer, and also during the Christmas season.
Most of the museum’s collection has been digitised and is accessible through the national search service Finna.
